ung, impressionable individuals. A mother’s love provides stability and emotional

availability, which is the key to their children’s well-being. This way of being is not categorized or

segmented by race or ethnicity; it is the genetic makeup of all mothers. The truth is that all

mothers want the best for their children and pray for them to be successful, confident, and

happy in life.

However, Black mothers carry a larger burden, which requires them to pray a more rigorous and

intentional prayer for tNo child is placed in a mother’s womb by coincidence. In Jeremiah 1:5, God says, “Before I

formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified

thee....”

A mother’s love knows no boundaries; it’s in a category all by itself. It shapes cultures and

molds yoheir children’s survival. Mothers with children of color pray daily that their

sons and daughters come home alive. They pray, in particular, that their children do not

experience race- and color-related trauma and the external fear associated with racism. Black

mothers pray that their children will not be socially marginalized as they live with the fear of

knowing that even though they’ve done everything right and necessary to raise good, law-

abiding children, their offspring have become an endangered species.
